Configuring iPALIM

Top  Previous  Next

Descriptions

iPALIM stands for “intelligent Private A-Link Intelligent Multiplexer”. This multiplexer functionally resides at the A-interface of the UltraWAVE Softswitch to enable the system to work as an Inter-Reach Office (IRO) Softswitch System to perform as a switch or as a BSC, depending on desired service and user type.

From the point of view of the iPALIM, private service and public service are provided by the IRO Softswitch:

The private A-Link multiplexer recognizes the users that are eligible for private services and routes their calls to the IRO for local switching within the local UltraWAVE community.

For the non-private (public) GSM mobile user, iPALIM routes calls to the PLMN MSC, bypassing the IRO. iPALIM allows the UltraWAVE IRO network to appear as a BSC to the PLMN MSC. The intelligent private A-link multiplexer is transparent to the user and the MSC. Moving into and out of the IRO is seamless to the public user.
