Enabling Free SMS Service

Top  Previous  Next

Descriptions

The free short message feature allows customer to independently subscribe/unsubscribe to free short message service package with a period of validity by sending a short message. When the validity expires, the new service package will cease automatically, and a notification short message will be sent to inform the customer that the service expired. The operator can customize the following characteristics to deploy the free short message service:

Validity period of the service package (1 day to 254 days, or without limit)

Different service package for specific user group

Allowable MO short messages defined by prefixes

Short message tariff based on prefix

Whether or not charge for service activation and deactivation

Whether or not charge daily or monthly rent

Operator may easily promote free short message service package to customers by applying this feature, such as pay 10$ for sending free short messages in 15 days. If customer is interested in this service package, he can send activate command by a short message to the switchover COS service number. After a successful activation, a notification short message will be sent back to customer about his current service status.

The mechanism of the free short message feature is to switchover the subscriber's COS. The subscriber sends command by short message to switch his original COS to a new COS with an operator predefined validity period. When the validity expires, the operative COS will be switched back to the original COS automatically, and a notification short message will be sent to inform the subscriber that the service expired. In addition, the subscriber can send commands by short message to cancel or inquire the service at any time.

The switchover COS supported commands are listed as below:

activate: Switch the original COS to the preset switchover COS.

deactivate: Switch back to the original COS.

inquire: Check the current COS is original or switchover COS.

For example, subscriber sends short message with "activate" to the switchover COS service number. After the successful switchover, the subscriber receives a notification short message.

There is no limit to the number of times the subscriber can switch his COS. Switchover COS can be either free or charged. The charge fee is preset in the supplementary tariff table.

Please note in the current stage, the switchover COS function is customized for free SMS service. That means the properties of new COS don't take over the properties of old COS except for the SMS tariff and rent setting. After new COS activated, the COS relevant attributes, such as service control, account validity, etc, are still using the setting of the old COS. The SMS tariff and rent setting of the new COS take effect in the operator predefined period. When it expires, the new setting will cease automatically, and COS will switch back to the original COS. In addition, the subscriber can send "deactivate" command by short message to cancel this service at any time.
