Descriptions
The UltraWAVE system supports a comprehensive set of supplementary services defined in GSM standards. A listing of supplementary services follows:
According to GSM Recommendation 02.81, the calling line identification presentation (CLIP) feature is a line identification supplementary service. This service enables a called mobile subscriber provided with this feature to receive the calling line identity. The latter includes the required address information, i.e. the (mobile) subscriber's (MS)ISDN number, to identify the calling party.
CLIP is often used together with the calling line identification restriction (CLIR) feature. CLIR is another line identification supplementary service and enables a mobile subscriber provided with this feature to prevent his calling line identity to be presented to the called party.
Compatibility with other Features
•Calling line identification restriction The calling line identification restriction (CLIR) supplementary service takes precedence over the calling line identification presentation (CLIP) supplementary service. This means that a mobile subscriber provided with CLIP does not receive the calling line identity from a subscriber provided with CLIR, except when the called mobile subscriber has an override category.
•Call waiting A busy mobile subscriber having subscription to call waiting is informed about a new incoming call. When this subscriber is provided with CLIP also, he additionally receives the calling line identity of the calling party originating this new incoming call.
•Call forwarding The interaction between CLIP and call forwarding concerns the following call forwarding conditions:
•Call forwarding unconditional •Call forwarding on mobile subscriber busy •Call forwarding on no reply •Call forwarding on mobile subscriber not reachable In each case, the call forwarded to the subscriber who is provided with CLIP receives the calling line identity of the calling party originating the call.
|
According to the GSM Recommendation 02.81, the calling line identification restriction (CLIR) feature is a line identification supplementary service. When this service is invoked, the originating network informs the destination network that the calling line identity is not allowed to be presented. The calling line identity is the calling (mobile) subscriber's (MS)ISDN number.
The feature "calling line identification presentation" (CLIP) is another line identification supplementary service which enables a mobile subscriber provided with this service to receive the calling line identity at his mobile station or terminal. If the calling party has subscription to CLIR, the called party receives an appropriate indication instead.
Compatibility with other Features
•CLIP The calling line identification restriction (CLIR) supplementary service takes precedence over the calling line identification presentation (CLIP) supplementary service. This means that a mobile subscriber provided with CLIP does not receive the calling line identity from a subscriber provided with CLIR, except when the called mobile subscriber has an override category.
|
According to GSM Recommendations 02.81, 03.81 and 04.81, the connected line identification presentation (COLP) is line identification supplementary services.
The COLP supplementary service provides the calling mobile subscriber with the possibility to receive the connected party's line identity. The connected line identity includes all the necessary address information, i.e. the (mobile) subscriber's (MS)ISDN number, to unambiguously identify the connected party.
COLP is often used together with the connected line identification restriction (COLR) feature.
Compatibility with other Features
•Call forwarding When a served (forwarding) subscriber selects the option that the calling subscriber is not notified of all call forwarding, the calling subscriber, which has COLP, does not receive the connected line identity when the call is answered, unless the calling subscriber has the override capability.
|
According to GSM Recommendations 02.81, 03.81 and 04.81, the connected line identification restriction(COLR) features are line identification supplementary services.
The COLR supplementary service enables the connected party to prevent the presentation of its line identity to the calling party. When the connected party has COLR applied, the calling party receives an indication that the connected line identity is not available due to restriction. However, as an operator option, it is possible to define categories of subscribers that have the ability to override the presentation restriction and have the connected party's identification presented.
Compatibility with other Features
•Call forwarding When a forwarded-to subscriber has the COLR supplementary service, the forwarded to subscriber's line identity is not provided with the notification that the call has been forwarded.

The Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) offers a mobile subscriber the possibility to bar certain incoming and outgoing calls. This can be useful when lending one's mobile station to somebody else. In such cases, the usage can be restricted to, for instance, the reception of calls, or to low cost calls. The activation and deactivation of such a barring can be password protected, allowing the control to be kept by the mobile subscriber himself.
This "call barring" feature is part of the supplementary service group as defined in GSM Recommendations 02.88, 03.88 and 04.88.
Compatibility with other Features
•Interaction between different call barring supplementary services Call barring can be divided into two groups:
•Barring of incoming calls •Barring of outgoing calls Within each group, only one barring service can be activated. This means that when a barring service is activated while another bar is already active within the same group, the new activation is accepted and the previous bar is deactivated.
•Interaction with Operator Determined Barring (ODB) The feature operator determined barring (ODB) also belongs to the call restriction services. ODB services are applied separately and independently from the call barring services. Whereas the mobile subscriber can have control of the call barring services, the ODB services can only be regulated by the PLMN operator. The ODB services take precedence over the call barring services. This means that in the case of a call request, the ODB barring services are checked first.
•Interaction with emergency calls An emergency call can always be set up, irrespective of whether an outgoing call barring service is active or not.
•Interaction with call waiting The activation of an outgoing barring service at the calling mobile subscriber's side does not affect any currently waiting calls originated by the calling mobile subscriber.
•Interaction with call hold If an outgoing barring service is activated after a call hold is invoked on an outgoing call, the held call can still be retrieved. Any new outgoing call to a non-allowed number by the barring service is barred.
•Interaction with call forwarding It is possible that the restrictions imposed by a call barring service are in conflict with the destination imposed by call forwarding.
For instance, a mobile subscriber which is not allowed to make an outgoing call (BAOC) cannot activate a call forwarding service. Therefore, incompatibility checks are provided to determine these conflicts during the activation. So, in the example, the call forwarding activation is denied. The mobile subscriber requesting this call forwarding service shall be informed of the supplementary service incompatibility.
The incompatibilities between call barring and call forwarding are described in detail in GSM 02.82.
|
The Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) offers a mobile subscriber the possibility of redirecting incoming calls to another directory number. This can be useful when a mobile subscriber is not able to answer the incoming call himself because, for instance, his station is busy or he cannot be reached. Calls can be forwarded in such cases.
Four call forwarding services are available depending on the condition to be fulfilled first. These services are part of the supplementary service group call offering, as defined in GSM Recommendation 02.82.
•Unconditional call forwarding is invoked upon calling the appropriate subscriber. •Conditional call forwarding consists of: •Call forwarding on mobile subscriber busy •Call forwarding on no reply •Call forwarding on mobile subscriber not reachable
|
According to GSM Recommendation 02.83, call waiting is a multi-channel supplementary service and informs a busy mobile subscriber (i.e. already involved in an active call), provided with this service, of a new incoming call. When the active call is released, the waiting call becomes the active call after the traffic channel has been established.
Call waiting is often used together with the call hold feature. Call hold is another multi-channel supplementary service which enables the mobile subscriber to temporarily interrupt the traffic channel of the active call. When the active call is put on hold, the subscriber is able to set up a new call, or to accept a waiting call.
Compatibility with other Features
•Call hold Both features "call waiting" and "call hold" are multi-channel services and may be used together as a result of a parallel transaction. They do not affect each other from a functional point of view.
|
According to GSM Recommendation 02.83, call hold is a multi-channel supplementary service which allows a mobile subscriber, when provided with the call hold feature, to temporarily interrupt an existing speech call. The traffic channel from the active call is released but remains assigned to the mobile subscriber in order to retrieve the held call later on. The served mobile subscriber can only have one call on hold at a time.
When the call hold has been set up, the served mobile subscriber (call hold initiator) can:
•alternate between both subscribers as many times as required, which means that he can retrieve the held call and put the active call on hold (if it is a speech call), and vice versa. •accept a waiting call. The consequence of accepting a waiting call is that either the call on hold or the active call has to be released. This has to be done because the served subscriber is able to handle only one active, one held and one waiting call. •disconnect the call to each separate subscriber or to both subscribers together.
Compatibility with other Features
•Call waiting Both features "call hold" and "call waiting" are multi-channel services and may be used together as a result of a parallel transaction. They do not affect each other from a functional point of view.
•Call transfer The call transfer service can only be invoked provided the served subscriber has one active call and one call on hold. The served mobile subscriber leaves both calls, the two remote parties are interconnected.
|
The supplementary service "Call Transfer" is a national service and allows a mobile subscriber involved in an existing voice connection to transfer this call to another subscriber.
Compatibility with other Features
•Mobile Terminated Call/Mobile Originated Call The call transfer invocation is not allowed if both calls are MTCs. The call transfer invocation is only allowed if either the active call is MTC and the held call an MOC or if the active call is an MOC and the held call MTC.
•Call waiting Any involved subscriber (A, B or C) may receive a call waiting indication before or during the call transfer. However, the served subscriber A cannot invoke a call transfer as long as there is a call waiting for him.
•Call hold If subscriber B puts his call to the served mobile subscriber A on hold before or during the transfer by the latter, the resulting call from C to B will remain held by subscriber B until he has retrieved it.
A similar effect occurs when subscriber B and C are interchanged.
|
The multi-party service allows a served mobile subscriber (i.e. having subscribed to the service) to manage a speech conference (teleservice 11) in which up to three parties are involved, the served mobile subscriber included.
Using the multi-party service requires the mobile subscriber to have subscription to call hold. Only when the subscriber controls an active call and a call on hold can he invoke a multi-party call. Furthermore, a Media Resource Function server (MRF), which is composed of Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC) and Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP), is needed to perform multi-party call control.
To connect an external MRF server (AudioCodes IPmedia Media Server), please refer to the following section:
•Connecting to IP media sever
Compatibility with other Features
•Call waiting A busy subscriber is informed of a new incoming call (mobile terminated call) with a call waiting indication when the subscriber has subscription to the service. Even when the subscriber is busy due to a multi-party call he has invoked, he will receive a call waiting indication. He then also is allowed to answer the mobile terminated call.

Administration
|
Explanation
|
Provision
|
The service provider offers the supplementary service to specific mobile subscribers as a result of a personal agreement. Giving a mobile subscriber subscription to a supplementary service is called provision.
|
Withdrawal
|
Operator controlled procedures are also provided to remove the subscriber's subscription to supplementary. This action is called withdrawal. Supplementary service can be withdrawn at the subscriber's request or for administrative reasons.
|
Activation
|
The activation of a supplementary service implies that, when a call is set up by the served mobile subscriber, the applicability of an activated supplementary service will be checked.
|
Deactivation
|
The deactivation of a supplementary service is performed by means of an appropriate control procedure performed by the subscriber or by the service provider. A supplementary service can also be deactivated when another supplementary service is activated.
|
Registration
|
Register information of a specific basic service in the network.
|
Erasure
|
Erase the previous registration. A previous registration can be erased in one of three ways:
•The subscriber can specifically erase a previous registration with an appropriate control procedure. •The subscriber can register new information for the specific basic service, the previous registration will be overridden. •All information is erased as a result of withdrawal of the supplementary service (administrative handling). |
Interrogation
|
The interrogation procedure enables the served mobile subscriber to obtain information about the data stored in the PLMN. The mobile subscriber can request a list of all basic services to which a supplementary service is active. In addition, the subscriber is able to receive supplementary service information concerning one particular service. The interrogation of a supplementary service does not require a password.
